Life can be a bit of a whirlwind, can't it? The hustle and bustle of everyday life often sweep us away, leaving little room to savor the simple joys and pleasures of being alive. But before you know it, spring is unfurling its wings – my favorite season. There’s something in the air each spring…Hope. New Chances. And so much love. It’s my favorite time to savor family memories with spring photography.

Spring marks an important chapter in each year. It’s like the world takes a deep, refreshing breath, and suddenly, everything feels lighter, brighter, and full of promise. It’s the perfect time to take stock of your life and capture spring season photos to mark this beautiful season. It may be a local snapshot or a conceptual masterpiece in a fairy tale location – the choice is yours. The most important part? Smiling and truly enjoying your precious time together, when the canvas is yours, and the colors of spring are waiting to be painted in the best spring season photos. Let’s explore the best photography ideas for your spring photography.

What Are Some Spring Photography Ideas to Try This Season?

When the spring flowers blossom and the sunshine begins to peak out more and more, spring has officially arrived. What better way to celebrate than spring photography? Let’s talk about my five best photo ideas for spring photography.

1. Beautiful Blankets!

There’s something so peaceful and romantic about resting under blooming branches, right? We’ll lay out a blanket and capture the candid joy of your family and friends, gathering together for a special moment. Soft blankets and smiling faces – that’s a recipe for timeless photos. We can plan your outfits for spring photo sessions accordingly, too.

2. Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossoms – and spring flowers in general – mark the official start of spring. Cherry blossoms, in particular, are synonymous with spring. These delicate blooms are a spring photography dream, with their soft, pastel hues and ethereal beauty.

Let’s plan a trip to see Boston’s cherry blossoms at the Arnold Arboretum and explore the timeless beauty of these flowers. Early morning light or golden hour provides the perfect soft light to showcase the delicate intricacies of each bloom.

3. April Showers and Chasing Rainbows

April showers bring more than just May flowers! Most people want to run and cancel when rain threatens to impede on their spring photography session. When the rain comes rushing through, don’t be afraid – rainy day photos can be the best photos! Once the rain stops, there’s nothing more freeing about running around and splashing in puddles, unleashing your inner child (or your actual child!).

Plus, without the rain, there would be no rainbows. And rainbow chasing may or may not be my favorite part of those spooky spring showers. And here's a secret: rain is not the only way to catch a rainbow. Seek out bodies of water like lakes or waterfalls for your own magical arch. Let’s book a time to go rainbow chasing!

4. Childhood Memories

Spring marks the best time to capture those precious childhood memories. Give your kids an hour or two to run wild! Imagine your little ones adorned with flower crowns, chasing after each other in fields. Those spontaneous, unrehearsed moments truly define childhood and make wonderful memories for years to come. Picture your child’s laughter echoing, tiny hands reaching out to touch vibrant flowers – these are the moments we want to freeze in time.

5. Senior Portraits

If you’re planning on taking senior portraits, what better time than spring? Graduation is right around the corner, and the season is a great time to capture the excitement and anticipation on camera!

We can head off to the beach, where the golden hour at the seaside is a game-changer. Picture yourself basking in that warm, golden glow with the ocean as your backdrop. The Boston area offers SO many amazing locations for portraits; we can pick from a list of my favorites.

Preserving Your Spring Memories

Planning your own spring photography session? Before we start working together, I always touch base with clients about where they may want to display their photos. Will these be part of a photo wall in your living room? Are you hoping to send out some photos on a Christmas card? Or are you dreaming about memorizing these memories in a coffee book photo album?

Thinking about where you might display your photos plays just as much of a role in the process as the photo session itself. If you’re picking out photos for a photo wall, let’s work together to build a cohesive story that works within your space. I’ll help optimize formats that work wonderfully on that specific wall. If you’re looking for those coffee table memories, we’ll design it for you. No matter your final goal, focus on vivid storytelling and those photos that capture the true personal stories.

Parting Words

Spring is not just a season; it's a canvas of endless possibilities waiting for you and your family – and spring family pictures are timeless treasures. Whether you're chasing cherry blossoms, dancing after the rain, or simply basking in the golden hour glow, remember to slow down and cherish this precious time with your family. Remember, it's not just about the perfect shot – it’s about capturing fleeting beauty, both in nature and in your family.
